Renowned football journalist Guillem Balague has claimed on his offical YouTube channel that reported Everton managerial target Paulo Fonseca has turned down a move to Goodison Park after finding out that Arsenal want to appoint him as Arsene Wenger’s successor, and Toffees fans have been quick to react to the rumour.
The 49-year-old Spaniard was giving his update on the latest with the Gunners’ search for a replacement for Wenger, and his comments won’t have pleased the Goodison Park faithful who are desperate to see Sam Allardyce leave at the end of the season, with Fonseca one of the supposed contenders to come in.
The 45-year-old has enjoyed another stunning campaign in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk – where he has masterminded 70 wins from 90 matches in total at the helm – but he is set to depart when his contract expires at the end of June.
Everton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Balague’s comments, and while one said “Big Sam it is then”, another said “we can get better”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
