According to Sky Sports, Everton are confident that they will sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala on loan until the end of the season on Wednesday, and Toffees fans have been quick to have their say on the deal.
While the Merseyside outfit have already brought Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott to Goodison Park to strengthen their attack this month, they looked set to go into February without bringing in any reinforcements at the back.
However, City’s £57m purchase of Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte on Tuesday has opened the door for Mangala to leave the Etihad on a temporary basis on the final day of the window, with Sam Allardyce close to snapping the 26-year-old up to compete with the likes of Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate at the heart of the defence.
Everton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the potential addition, and while one said “that Walsh is a fraud”, another labelled the centre-back as “shocking”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Absolutely not based upon what my City mates have consistently said about him.
