Former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley produced a disappointing display in Chelsea's 6-0 thrashing by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, and Toffees fans were quick to react to his performance on Twitter.

The England international departed Goodison Park for the team from the capital just over 12 months ago, and having found first-team football under Antonio Conte hard to come by last term, he has featured more prominently in Maurizio Sarri's preferred 4-3-3 formation this time around.

His start against Pep Guardiola's men was just his second in his side's previous five Premier League fixtures, but he struggled and played a part in Sergio Aguero's second goal with a poor backwards header, before being replaced by Mateo Kovacic seven minutes after half-time.

Of course while analysing his showing, the Toffees' faithful will also have been well aware that a thumping triumph for City was good news as Liverpool bid to win their first ever Premier League title, with the Cityzens returning to the summit on goal difference after the weekend fixtures.

Everton supporters took to social media to have their say on Barkley, and while one described him as "out of his depth", another said "Barkley hasn't forgotten about us".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
