Everton’s summer transfer target Wilfried Zaha put in a disappointing display for Crystal Palace in their 1-0 defeat against Sheffield United on Sunday, and Toffees fans on Twitter were quick to have their say on the Ivory Coast international.
The 26-year-old was handed his first start of the season by manager Roy Hodgson having been left on the substitutes’ bench for the opening day clash against the Toffees – who of course tried to buy him during the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit confirmed that they had a bid of £52m for the attacker rejected in July, and then denied that they had returned with a second offer for the player, who it was reported by The Independent expected to join the Blues before the deadline.
Zaha also handed in a transfer request according to Sky Sports, and while he has been an important player for the Eagles previously, that quality certainly wasn’t on show at Bramall Lane.
Meanwhile, Everton have plenty of wide options themselves in the form of Bernard, Richarlison, Theo Walcott and new boy Alex Iwobi, so it remains to be seen whether they will reignite their interest in the New Year.

Judging by the following comments, some Toffees supporters wouldn’t be too bothered if they didn’t.

It’s already imploded. He clearly doesn’t want to be there.

And he’ll be 6 months older. I think we should move on from that one now
