Loads of Everton fans on Twitter have demanded that the club take the Carabao Cup seriously after they were drawn away to League Two Lincoln City following the draw for the second round on Tuesday night.

The Toffees haven't won a major trophy since they lifted the FA Cup 24 years ago, and with their chances of winning the Premier League slim – despite what Leicester City did in 2016 – their best chance of doing so is by winning a domestic trophy, as they did in 1995.

The Merseyside outfit actually beat the Imps in the third round of the FA Cup at the beginning of this year, but they were only narrow 2-1 victors after the visitors ran them close at Goodison Park.

They went on to be beaten by Millwall in the next round, while they were knocked out by Southampton on penalties in the third round of the League Cup last term having overcome Rotherham United at the previous stage.

Everton supporters clearly want to see their club take the competition more seriously this time around – especially as they are facing lower league opposition – and many have urged manager Marco Silva to treat Lincoln with respect.

While one individual said "let's take it seriously", another said "take it seriously please".

The closest they have come to success in recent times is when they reached the semi-finals of both competitions in 2015/16, but having been knocked out at that stage now is the time to try and go one better in order to try and boost their trophy cabinet and give the Goodison faithful something to shout about.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction...
