Football fans get so wrapped up in the desire for their clubs to bring in new players that departures within the squad can sometimes go amiss.
On Thursday, Everton confirmed that goalkeeper Joel Robles has left the club to join Real Betis on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract.
The Spaniard, who has won three majors club trophies in his career, had been part of the fold at Goodison Park since 2013 when he signed from Atletico Madrid.
Unfortunately for him, though, he was unable to establish himself as the regular number one, and had to settle for a bit-part role.

Last season, which was a tumultuous one given that Everton went through two managers – Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce – Robles made just two appearances.
Both of those outings were in the Europa League, and rather than play in the top flight, he was restricted to Premier League 2, in which he made two appearances for the development side.
While many Everton fans felt that it was time for Robles to move on, they opted to praise the shot-stopper on Twitter after he bid farewell.

Thank you Joel. I always thought you never got a fair go. Deserved to keep your place when Howard got injured. I couldn’t understand Martinez at the time. Good luck and all the best.
