An Everton fan has taught us all an important lesson in online trolling: if you’re going to do it, make sure you don’t end up trolling yourself.
Some more useful advice would be ‘just don’t do it’ – but for those not already dissuaded against this modern phenomenon, perhaps this Premier League fan’s attempt will tilt the scales.
The Toffees fan in question thought he’d make LA Galaxy the subject of his own personal banter, coming up with the ingenious idea of pretending it was his birthday, and tricking the club’s official Twitter account into giving him a shout-out.
The Major League Soccer club obliged, only for the Evertonian to spring his trap and reveal that he’d been spoofing about his allegiances to the Galaxy, adding that he ‘hoped the club got relegated’.
Unfortunately for this keyboard warrior, relegation and promotion are not factors that clubs have to deal with in the MLS, as the league has a set 20 teams with entry and exit only really possible through the buying or selling of a franchise.
