Reported Everton managerial target Paulo Fonseca crashed out of the Champions League with his team Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night, and Toffees fans have urged their club to move for the highly-rated 45-year-old boss.
The Ukrainian outfit led 2-1 from the first leg of their last 16 tie against AS Roma, but a 1-0 defeat in the Italian capital saw them exit Europe’s elite club competition on away goals, even though they gave the hosts plenty of scares throughout the 90 minutes.
The Merseyside outfit’s owner Farhad Moshiri is reportedly considering the future of current boss Sam Allardyce this summer, with Fonseca touted as one of the top potential candidates to replace the 63-year-old.
Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the Mozambique-born manager via social media, and while one said “let’s get this deal agreed”, another said “problem could be if Arsenal come sniffing should Wenger be sacked”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Unfortunate exit for the very plucky Shakhtar who took the game to Roma today.
Nothing we saw today changed our minds that Paulo Fonseca shouldn't be in charge of Everton next season. #EFC

Paulo Fonseca as @Everton manager really excites me! The style of play and the type of players he could bring to the club. Whether the fans have the patience or the taste for it will be the question. He will need time to implement his ideas and build a team playing good football
