According to The Mirror, former Everton manager David Moyes is interested in replacing Marco Silva if the Portuguese leaves the club in the near future.

What's the word, then?

As time goes on, it seems as if Marco Silva could be edging closer to the exit door with the club far away from Farhad Moshiri's aim of reaching the Champions League. Everton are currently in the relegation zone on just seven points from eight games and find themselves seven points away from the European spots.

Names such as Laurent Blanc and Erik ten Hag have been linked with the move and The Mirror reports that former boss David Moyes is also open to a return to the club. Moyes left Everton for Manchester United six seasons ago and has since been sacked by three clubs; United, Real Sociedad and West Ham. The Scot also resigned from Sunderland after relegating the club to the Championship.

As a result of Moyes' dreadful record post-Everton, there is little surprise that fans are unhappy about his potential return. However, this appointment could be the director of football Marcel Brands' best business to date at the club.

It could be the right time for Moyes' return

During his tenure at Everton, Moyes won 219 matches out of the 516 games in charge, whilst barely breaking the bank and only ever spending more than £15m once, when he bought Marouane Fellaini in 2008. In general, he built his squads on a very small budget and relied on signing the likes of Seamus Coleman for £60k, who has since become one of the club's best defenders over the last decade.

Despite a substandard budget, Moyes still managed to get the Toffees consistently inside the top eight, achieving Europa League status three times in back to back seasons from 2007-2010.

However, nowadays, Everton are far from achieving European football like Moyes did, but have since splashed the cash without him. In fact, the cost of some players combined like Gylfi Sigurdsson for £45m and Richarlison for £50m was more than the Scot spent throughout his 11 years at Goodison Park.

Brands was appointed the role of director of football to make the club "better and more equipped to challenge the top teams,” said Farhad Moshiri. So, with Moyes' proven capabilities in achieving European football, plus Brands' experience in winning in the Netherlands, it may work out to be the perfect duo.

After all, the Dutchaman has spent plenty of money at Everton and the club are seemingly far worse than when the Scot left in 2013.
