So the links involving Hirving Lozano and Everton just won't seem to go away.

Reports back in January suggested that Carlo Ancelotti was keen on bringing him to Goodison Park, before the rumours resurfaced the following month.

Now, according to Calciomercato, the likes of Everton, West Ham and Wolves are interested in luring the Mexico international away from Serie A giants Napoli.

And whilst his performances for the Italian side this season have been nothing to write home about, the Toffees would do well to simply ignore that, and take a look at his stats when plying his trade for PSV.

Whilst the winger has managed just three goals in 28 games across all competitions this season, his final campaign in the Netherlands was a different story altogether. Lozano found the back of the net 21 times in 40 outings, and that's not to mention his quite impressive 12 assists too.

The 24-year-old showed he could be equally effective on both sides of the wing - on the right, he averaged more than one goal contribution per game, whilst on the left, he averaged a goal contribution less than every other game.

His versatility could fit in well with the likes of Richarlison, with the duo being able to inter-change and cause untold havoc on opposition defences. On his day, Lozano is very much a direct forward, taking people on, and having the nous to pick out a pass too - the 2018/2019 season saw him average 2.2 dribbles and 2.1 key passes per game in the Dutch top-flight.

And it was no wonder that Ancelotti himself brought him to Napoli last summer when he was in charge of the club. After confirmation of the deal, the current Everton boss waxed lyrical about what Lozano could bring to the table.

"He's a player that we've been tracking for a while and thanks to the club's hard work, we finally now have him here with us. Lozano brings extra technical quality to the squad. He's full of desire and is very excited and motivated to be at Napoli. Those are the characteristics that we like, besides his technical ability. Hirving can play anywhere across the frontline. On the left, right or behind the striker. Maybe he can also play as a striker himself. He's a complete footballer with fantastic quality."

It's therefore so much more understandable why Everton's interest in the Mexican keeps popping up on a regular basis. This is a player who Ancelotti sought to bring to Napoli for a long time, and could see the potential he posseses.

Whilst it may not have worked out for him in Italy, reuniting him with Ancelotti at Goodison Park could be the making of him. It's a swoop that could see Everton strike absolute gold.

Meanwhile, this Everton ace should be criticised just as much as Gylfi Sigurdsson.
