According to Football Insider, Everton have joined Premier League rivals Manchester United in the race to sign former Liverpool youngster Rafael Camacho.
Well, Football Insider say that the Toffees are keen to bring the 19-year-old back to the Premier League less than 12 months after he departed Anfield for Sporting Lisbon.
The report says that a source has told Football Insider that the teenager’s performances in his homeland have led to English scouts flocking to watch him in action, with the Merseyside club, the Red Devils and Tottenham Hotspur credited with an interest.
The report adds that he joined Sporting in a deal that could eventually be worth £7m.
He certainly could be, given he is making waves for his current employers despite being just 19 years of age.
According to Transfermarkt, the Portugal U20 international has made 19 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring one and providing a further assist.
He is really starting to come into his own too having started Sporting’s previous four matches in all competitions, and he is beginning to show the sort of performances that once saw Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp describe him as a “wonderful player”.
The only question mark over the youngster right now would be the fact that he came out and basically criticised his former boss on Instagram – before deleting the post – back in April 2019 for playing him at right-back, which he felt wasn’t his strongest position.
Indeed, as per the matches where Transfermarkt has recorded Camacho’s positions in 2019/20, he has played a lot further forward.
That perhaps raises some concerns over his attitude, but in the end he is still young and is still learning, and that alone shouldn’t put Everton off bringing him back to the north-west of England.
