Ever since Marouane Fellaini left to join David Moyes at Manchester United, Everton have lacked a truly dominant midfielder that could wreak havoc at Goodison Park.

When looking at the kinds of players Carlo Ancelotti has at his disposal in the engine room, then you can't help but wonder whether the Toffees could do with someone with some extra power and strength.

The likes of Tom Davies, Fabian Delph, Gylfi Sigurdsson are all relatively diminutive in size and stature, Andre Gomes may stand at over 6 foot but is more elegant in his style, whilst Jean-Philippe Gbamin has been out injured and hasn't been able to show what he is capable of.

And that is why Everton's pursuit of Geoffrey Kondogbia is so mouthwatering. According to Sky Sports, along with Premier League rivals Tottenham, Ancelotti's side are also tracking the Frenchman ahead of a potential move for the Valencia star.

Standing at an imposing 6 foot 2, Kondogbia is the absolute epitome of a midfield powerhouse. He is completely dominant in the air a la Fellaini, winning an impressive 1.8 aerial duels per game in La Liga this season. But rather than just being someone who the Toffees could lump the ball up to, he also has some craft to go with his brawn.

He has a career average of 1.4 dribbles per game, and having that ability to go through the gears could be a game-changer for Ancelotti. Think back to Premier League greats like Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure who could make charging runs from deep before finishing at the other end.

Kondogbia is in a similar bracket to the duo in terms of marrying brute power and force with some elegance, and if Everton can edge out Spurs to his signing, he could add something that the side just don't currently have.

Meanwhile, this Everton man has been the unsung hero for Carlo Ancelotti.
