Everton midfield maestro’s future in doubt amid interest from Premier League rivals

The Sunday Mirror are reporting that Everton midfielder James McCarthy is seriously considering his future at the Merseyside club following reported interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham and Manchester City in securing his signature.

McCarthy moved to Goodison Park from Wigan Athletic along with manager Roberto Martinez in 2013, after following Roberto Martinez to Merseyside in a £13 million move.

While his debut campaign went so well that his boss stated his transfer value had already doubled, the 24-year-old midfielder has since been left disappointed with club officials over their lack of a new contract offer since then.

He had previously allegedly been promised improved terms if he did well after making the move from Wigan.

The Republic of Ireland international has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees this season, scoring a single goal. While Everton have had a largely miserable campaign, they have at least managed to hit some form in recent weeks, and are undefeated in four games following their 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Burnley on Saturday.
