Everton monitoring Serie A starlet

Everton are keeping a close eye on Sampdoria’s teenage sensation Giacomo Calo, according to talkSPORT.

The 17-year-old has started to attract attention from a number of top clubs, after starring for Sampdoria’s youth side this season, firing 10 goals from midfield.

The Genoa-based side are desperate to keep hold of him, and are ready to offer him his first professional contract – however Everton are hoping they can tempt him with a move to the Premier League.

Roberto Martinez has brought through some young talent at Goodison Park already this season, and believes Calo could be a star of the future.

However, the former Wigan boss knows he will have to see off some strong interest from Spain if he hopes to land the Italian youngster.

The Toffees closed the gap on fourth-placed Arsenal with a 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage yesterday to just four points, and hold a game in hand.

Martinez’s side welcome the Gunners to Goodison Park on Sunday, in a fixture that could go a long way to deciding Everton’s Champions League ambitions.
