Everton out-bid West Brom in goal-machine transfer hunt, Euro giants respond

Everton have out-bid West Brom in the race for Islam Slimani, but their €20m (£17.2m) proposal has been dismissed as ‘ridiculous’ by Sporting CP, according to reports from A Bola.

The Toffees’ transfer plans are expected to kick on following the near £50m sale of John Stones to Manchester City, and one area of Ronald Koeman’s squad that appears short of depth is the striking department.

With talk of Romelu Lukaku’s future being uncertain there have been links with a host of new names, and reports claim that Slimani is one they want.

It’s understood that the Merseysiders have lodged an offer of £17.2m for the Algerian goal-machine – a proposal that puts them ahead of West Brom, who are also keen – but Sporting have knocked this back as they hold out for €30m (£25.8m) for the 28-year-old.

Slimani has been earning rave reviews for his performances in the Primeira Liga in recent times and has netted a mightily impressive 39 goals over the course of the past two campaigns.
