According to reports, Newcastle will look to sell Chancel Mbemba this summer, and he could be the John Stones replacement Everton have been crying out for.

What's the word?

Fans hate taking “rejects” from other Premier League clubs, but the success of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool has shown how a player can excel in a league where he previously struggled if the fit is right.

According to report in the Newcastle Chronicle, the Magpies will sell Chancel Mbemba this summer, and Everton should absolutely take a bargain punt on the Congo international.

Fans will turn their noses up at taking player from a side that finished below them, but the 23 year-old will be sold on the cheap, so there’s really nothing to lose.

Celtic are also interested in the young defender.

Why move for Mbemba?

Everton have had plenty of problems this year, and the injuries to veterans like Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman certainly played their part in their bad start to the season.

The Toffees improved drastically at the back when their experienced heads returned, but realistically they should be looking to replace both Baines and Jagielka this summer.

Mbemba is quick with or without the ball and extremely good with the ball at his feet, something the Toffees have lacked since John Stones left, and an attacking manager such as Marco Silva could certainly get the best out of the ball playing centre back.

The young defender has struggled for playing time at Newcastle, making just nine Premier League appearances this season, but has still averaged 1.8 tackles per game, 1.7 interceptions and an impressive 4.6 clearances in those nine games.

Mbemba can play centre back or full back in a back three or a back four, and even appeared in Newcastle’s midfield at times. The pacey centre-back has both versatility and youth on his side at just 23.

While the Toffees will surely look to bring in an established star to replace Jagielka and the much maligned Ashley Williams this summer, Mbemba would be a low risk high reward signing.
