According to reports in The Telegraph, via Sky Sports' Paper Talk, Everton are considering making an £8m bid for West Bromwich Albion left-back Kieran Gibbs.

What's the word, then?

Well, new Toffees boss Marco Silva, who is already risking the wrath of the Goodison Park faithful with his first major transfer decision, is looking to strengthen his squad this summer in order to ensure his team improve upon a disappointing 2017/18 campaign, and one of his priority positions to sort out may be at left-back with Leighton Baines getting no younger and with little quality competition for the 33-year-old.

The Telegraph report that the Merseyside outfit are weighing up a move for the Baggies' Gibbs, who may well want a return to the Premier League having suffered relegation to the Championship in his first season with the west Midlands outfit.

How did Gibbs do during the 2017/18 season?

While it was a disappointing campaign for the club, the former Arsenal defender was one of their more consistent performers.

The 28-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions, providing three assists, as the Baggies came close to securing their top flight status following some improved defensive performances under Darren Moore in April and May.

Would he be a good Everton signing?

While Gibbs has plenty of experience in the Premier League and in Europe as well, the Merseyside outfit should be aiming higher than the 28-year-old if they want to progress as much as owner Farhad Moshiri wants them to next season.

In fact, the arrival of the former Gunners star would prove that Silva – who is still relatively inexperienced in terms of the English football – isn't yet ready to match the Toffees owner's big ambitions.
