Leicester City have moved ahead of Everton in the race to sign highly-rated playmaker James Maddison this summer, according to Press Association via BT Sport.
The report claims that the Foxes are now in pole position to sign the Norwich City starlet, who scored league goals for the Canaries last season.
It goes on to say that the England Under-21 star is rated at £20m by the Carrow Road club and that Everton’s interest in Maddison may be deemed irrelevant by the player’s desire to move back closer to his home town of Coventry; he came through the ranks at the Ricoh Arena.
They go on to claim that the 2015/16 Premier League winners will lose Riyad Mahrez and Maddison’s creativity would be a coup in Claude Puel’s bid to replace the Algerian star.
Everton must make sure that they get back ahead of Leicester in the hunt for Maddison as he has the perfect profile to bring more attractive football to Goodison Park.
He is young, English, dynamic and has an eye for goal and bringing Maddison in during the same transfer window that yesterday’s man Wayne Rooney leaves would be a sign that revolution is on the way on Merseyside.
Also, if Everton have genuine top six aspirations, they must ensure that Goodison Park is a more attractive destination than the King Power Stadium, regardless of geography.
