Everton have become the latest club to join the race to sign Barnsley right back John Stones, reports the Mirror.

The 18-year-old has been impressing with his performances at Barnsley, with Manchester City and Chelsea also interested.

Now Everton are also getting involved, with David Moyes sending coach Jimmy Lumsden to a Barnsley game in midweek to watch the rising star.

Barnsley have already been warning clubs to keep their hands off Stones, but may not be able to resist the temptation of a big offer. Stones is also currently under contract, after signing a three-year deal in August. However, he could be brought to the Premier League in January if the money is right.

Stones has been at Barnsley since 2001, coming up through the club's youth academy, and has appeared eight times for the club. He has also played at Under-19s level for England.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill last month denied rumours that the club had received contact from Chelsea over a potential move for the defender, telling BBC Radio Sheffield that "it would be the wrong move for him at this time," adding that it is 'in his best interests' to stay at the club.
