Marco Silva is to have a sit down with 21-year-old Kieran Dowell as the attacking midfielder becomes frustrated with his lack of involvement, according to reports in the Liverpool Echo.

What’s the word?

In an interview with the Echo, Silva is claimed to have said he will soon have a conversation with Dowell over the England U20 international’s involvement for the Toffees.

It is claimed the Portuguese manager was impressed by his performances during the club’s pre-season tour but the academy graduate’s only competitive involvement in the first team has come via the Carabao Cup.

More recently, the Ormskirk-born ace featured in Tuesday night’s SportPesa cup final against Gor Mahia and scored in the 4-0 win, but later revealed: “That’s been the frustrating thing at the moment - not getting as much game time."

It may be a while yet before he gets his next chance to put the kit on at Goodison Park, as the Echo noted Silva said: “When the moment arrives I will sit with the player, I will talk with him but you never know what will happen between now and January.

"We are at the beginning of November and everything can change fast in football.

“Kieran is an important player for our club and we will wait until January and decide what will be the best solution.”

Silva’s decision must be clear

When Silva and Dowell sit down to discuss the attacking midfielder’s future, the decision must be clear and must be to allow him to leave on loan.

While the 41-year-old has shown faith in younger players like Tom Davies, it is clear Dowell is not part of his plans at present.

A loan move would allow the 21-year-old to build on his game in another system, given in the Echo’s interview he noted how familiar he is with the way his England U21 Toffees teammates play.

Chelsea youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori are certainly showing what the right loan move to the Championship can do for their careers, as they play a key role under Frank Lampard at Derby.
