Seamus Coleman has had a dreadful season for both club and country. The right-back has been part of an Everton defence which has conceded 13 goals and left them inside the relegation zone on just seven points from eight games.

Coleman has been at Everton for a decade now and has been one of their most astute players at the back, winning the club's Player of the Year in 2013-14 and scoring an impressive 22 goals and bagging 22 assists since 2009. However, it has been a completely different story this campaign, highlighted by his performance against Switzerland for the Republic of Ireland.

After picking up a second yellow card against Burnley for his challenge on Erik Pieters, the Irishman was once again dismissed for his country just 10 days later for a blatant handball, but it wasn't only the red card that saw him criticised by Irish fans on Twitter. As a result of his sending off late on, Coleman registered a dismal 4.7 rating on WhoScored and also failed to make a single tackle throughout the game.

The defender's handball resulted in a penalty kick, and although it was saved by keeper Darren Randolph, it was a major chance given to the opposition. His sending off may also have serious consequences on Ireland's progression to Euro 2020, as he will now be suspended for the crucial final game against Denmark.

Furthermore, Coleman was dispossessed once during the game against Switzerland and throughout the encounter looked lost going forward, struggling to get past Ricardo Rodriguez throughout the match.

With Everton, his suspension will mean Djibril Sidibe will take his spot at right-back for the game against West Ham, and if the Monaco loanee puts in a positive performance, his spot could be under serious threat.

Meanwhile, Jonjoe Kenny will return to the Toffees after what has so far been a impressive loan spell with Schalke. The Liverpudlian has played every minute of thir league campaign, providing two assists and even pitching in with a goal which helped him win the club's Rookie of the Month for August.

This season, as shown on Tuesday against the Swiss, has been a dismal campaign for Coleman, and with the form of Kenny, the 31-year-old's place at right-back is facing some big questions for the future.
