Everton's bad run of form continued at the weekend and that has led to pressure mounting on manager Marco Silva.

This time the defeat was different, and harder to take. It wasn't just the fact that it came against a newly-promoted side, but that the team failed to create any real openings, despite being at home.

Prior to Saturday, the Toffees had won two out of two at Goodison Park and had seemed to got the ball rolling by scoring three against Wolves.

Since that match, they have one goal and eight shots on target from two games, Bournemouth and Sheffield United, with the same mistakes cropping up in defence their undoing.

The first was calamitous. Everton had dominated possession without being clinical in the final third, but when the visitors got a corner there was a sense that Silva's side could be undone; after all, they have conceded the second most from set-pieces this season.

On this occasion, the blame for the goal lies with Jordan Pickford. Last week he failed to deal with a Cherries corner in similar fashion, and it may be that sides now know it is a weakness in his game.

Although whipped in with pace by Oliver Norwood, the England international should have comfortably punched the ball clear, but instead he missed it and Yerry Mina was in the unfortunate position to deflect into his own net.

It will likely be a major concern for Silva ahead of matches against Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City this week, and if Pickford fails to make the required improvement to his game then their record of conceding from set-pieces is unlikely to get better.

His face upon the full-time whistle really sums up what he and most Everton fans were feeling.

There is no lack of effort but the same inadequacies keep on occurring in all areas of the field, and until changes are made by Silva they are likely to continue.
