Everton have been largely disastrous across the park throughout this campaign, conceding 13 goals and scoring just six themselves over their eight Premier League games.

As a result, many players have put in substandard performances, such as Morgan Schneiderlin. For example, his latest display only drew a 4/10 rating from The Liverpool Echo in a dismal showing against Burnley, and he has drawn plenty of criticism from fans on Twitter for his performances this term.

With injuries to Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, the former Southampton man has taken the centre-midfield role alongside Delph, with another individual having to simply watch from the bench - Tom Davies.

Davies burst onto the scene in 2016-17, where he scored two goals and provided three assists, which included a memorable goal in the 4-0 demolition over Manchester City. The season after, the midfielder continued to impress, adding another two goals to his resume with the Toffees and subsequently became a regular for the England U21s, for whom he scored the one goal.

But now, at 21 years of age and with four names ahead of him on the teamsheet, it might be time for the academy graduate to look elsewhere. The Englishman has seen just 20 minutes of Premier League action over two games for Everton so far and with Gomes back from injury and Gbamin soon to return, it is looking unlikely Davies will increase his playing time.

Throughout the season, Marco Silva has barely considered the youngsters, as Mason Holgate has seen only 17 minutes of top flight action and remains, along with Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the only player under 23 to step out for the Blues in the competition this season.

As a result, the former Watford man has sent the likes of Fraser Hornby and Jonjoe Kenny out on loan, both of whom have had impressive campaigns so far. Kenny has played every minute of Schalke's season up to now, whilst Hornby has netted three times in four games in Belgium.

In truth, if Davies is to see more game time and make an impact at Everton, he should seriously consider a loan move like his fellow academy graduates. It is tough to see him playing ahead of the current midfielders and considering the success of loanees elsewhere, the 21-year-old may find a spell away from the club is his best way of becoming one of the club's main players in the future.
