Former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill would like to make a return to the Premier League in the MLS off season, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 33-year-old has revealed he wants to secure a loan deal from New York Red Bulls in January, in order to keep his fitness up ahead of the summer's World Cup, with a number of clubs set to battle it out for his signature.

Cahill spent eight successful years at Goodison Park after signing on the back of reaching the FA Cup Final with Millwall in 2004.

He managed to write himself into Everton folklore by scoring over 50 goals during his time, and was an integral part of the squad that finished in fourth place during the 2004/2005 season.

He has made no secret of his love for the club since departing at the end of the 2011/2012 season, and even admitted he would love to play for Everton again in the future.

It remains to be seen whether current Toffees boss Roberto Martinez would be interested in bringing the Australian back to Goodison Park, but Cahill is confident there will be plenty of interested parties.

"I'm going to get a lot of shouts. People will always be knocking," he said.

Everton have used the MLS close season to good effect in the past, signing Landon Donovan on two occasions.

Another player hoping for a Premier League loan from the MLS is Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey, with plenty of clubs set to battle for the former Tottenham and Fulham forward on a short term deal.
