According to an exclusive report in The Mirror, Everton are lining up a £30m swoop for former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, and Toffees fans have been quick to have their say on the link on Twitter.

The report says that Carlo Ancelotti wants the Germany international at Goodison Park after he was told he was surplus to requirements at Juventus, although there is a concern he could reject such a move with The Mirror reporting he has already turned down a switch to Manchester United out of respect for his former employers.

The Merseyside outfit have certainly had their issues in the middle of the park this term – especially through the injury absence of Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin in recent months – with stand-ins such as Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin largely struggling.

The aforementioned duo picked up 2/10 and 3/10 player ratings from The Liverpool Echo for their displays in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month, for example.

One supporter highlighted how they were excited at the potential link-up between Can and Gomes should he sign, and it could be an interesting dynamic if they were used in a double-pivot.

Another supporter went as far as labelling him as being "better than any midfielder we have", and to be fair to him it's hard to argue against that based on this season to date - especially from an Everton point of view where they just haven't been the same in the centre without Idrissa Gueye.

That said, the fact the 26-year-old has only played 279 minutes of football for Juve in 2019/20 doesn't read great either.

Not everyone was keen on a move for the ex-Red though, with one simply saying "hope not" and another pointing out the fact that they need legs in midfield.

Call yourself an Everton expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

Can is certainly more of a solid defensive midfielder than a tenacious terrier like Idrissa Gueye or reported 'dream' Ancelotti target Allan is, so they could be right here.

That need for legs has been pretty evident too, with the likes of Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson and Fabian Delph not quite having that zip required.

During what was a bit of a mixed reaction to the link, the following Everton supporters seemed keen to remind others that they need to lelieve in Ancelotti and what he wants in the transfer market, with a standout comment being "we must trust Ancelotti's judgement".

That is a fair point too given the wealth of experienced he has as a manager having won three Champions Leagues and top-flight titles in England, Germany, France and Italy, as per Transfermarkt.

In other Everton news, the Toffees will be praying that one January transfer target gets off to a better start than £27m man did if he signs before the deadline...
