It may have been another disappointing defeat for Dean Smith's men at Villa Park, but their captain gave them hope in the closing stages of the 3-1 defeat with a brilliant chest and half-volley that left Alex McCarthy with no chance.

Grealish now has five goals and four assists in 16 Premier League appearances this term, and seven and five respectively in 18 outings in all competitions.

The skipper has also been fouled on average 4.6 times per game in the top flight in 2019/20 as per WhoScored, showing how much of a threat he is to opposition defences, and how tricky he can be.

Many Everton supporters have clearly been impressed with what they've seen from him, especially when their own attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is struggling for form – he has just one goal and one assist in 17 Premier League matches during the current campaign and came under criticism from fans for his display against Arsenal at the weekend.

Some suggested they'd want Grealish to replace the Iceland international after being asked whether they would like the 24-year-old signed in January as a potential successor to the former Swansea player.

However, while others acknowledged he is a good player and that they would like to see him at Goodison Park, they also believe that there is no chance that Villa would sell him in January - unless it was a huge, huge fee it seems highly unlikely.

That is a sensible view to have because given he is their skipper and a boyhood fan of the Midlands club, not only will he likely want to stick around for the whole season at the very least, Smith's men also can't afford to lose arguably their best player in their battle against the drop.
