It's set to be an exciting season on the Blue side of Merseyside.

For the first time in what seems like a while, Toffees' supporters have reason to be optimistic. In new manager Ronald Koeman, they have a man capable of stringing together a handy outfit capable of competing at the highest level in the league.

And despite a 3-1 win over MK Dons on Tuesday, the Toffees have been a little bland in pre-season so far, falling against Dynamo Dresden and Real Betis in friendly games, suggesting new faces may be needed in order to freshen up a side that failed to perform on a number of occasions this season.

So with that in mind, who should be at the forefront of Koeman's thoughts when it comes to new additions?

Here's FIVE names that could fire Everton to glory next season....

Christian Benteke

This one could divide opinion.

Many believe a career is not forged in one season and these are the types of people who could be suggesting Riyad Mahrez isn't worth £50million.

But a career isn't destroyed in a season either, and despite a pretty poor one with Liverpool last year, Christian Benteke deserves another shot. We saw on numerous times during his time with Aston Villa as to just how dependable the Belgian can be in times of crisis.

He pretty much kept the Villains up for three consecutive seasons and he'd be a great option for the Toffees should Lukaku move on.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

A man who looks to be moving on this summer, there is little arguing just how good this man is, despite a part-bit role for United last season.

The experience German midfielder would add some definite steel to a Toffees' midfield that has looked a little short of muscle so far in pre-season.

In Gareth Barry's absence, they've looked a little weak at times and Schweinsteiger would quickly sort out any lingering worries in the middle of the park.

Juan Mata

Whilst his future is still up in the air, this is the type of player Koeman should be courting, even if it doesn't come through.

Quick, skillful and versatile- we've seen it all from the Spaniard during his time with Manchester United. Mourinho has frozen the winger out a couple of times when he's worked with him in the past and he'd be a massive coup for a side like Everton.

Theo Walcott

He's lost his way over the past couple of seasons at Arsenal, and many believe it is time for Theo Walcott to move onto pastures new.

We know how much his pace and skill can cause trouble to opposition defences, it's just about playing him with the freedom he needs to do so, namely upfront- a position he's struggled to cement at Arsenal.

He's pretty far down the Emirates pecking order, and this would be a tricky but ultimately fruitful move for Everton.

Romelu Lukaku

I know what you're thinking, this is technically cheating.

But if Everton can keep hold of their Belgian hitman, he could serve to be their biggest signing of the season. It was clear he was completely set on leaving a couple of months ago but with the new manager coming in, the odds backing him with a move away have come down a little.

We all know what he is capable of and he could be massive for the Toffees if they can keep hold.
