The first half of Super Sunday is done and dusted and Everton have recorded a solid 2-0 win over West Ham at Goodison Park thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley.

The first half was a very tight battle. Both teams had chances to get in front with the chief of those falling to Pedro Obiang and Ross Barkley respectively.

Obiang skied an effort as he was closed in on from all sides whilst Barkley worked some space for himself in the area before seeing his shot saved by a strong arm from Adrian.

Goalless it would stay until half-time but things soon changed after the break. Quick thinking from Yannick Bolasie saw him seize the ball in the area and square it for Romelu Lukaku to nod home into an open net.

Then, Barkley did get his goal to seal the game and round off a job well done for the Toffees.

It was a fascinating game to watch for large periods and here are five things we learned from it all...

Everton have decent squad depth

Ronald Koeman played the likes of Joel and Ramiro Funes Mori in the Toffees' defence whilst Bryan Oviedo was also once again in the side deputising for Leighton Baines but the side didn't look too hindered.

Everton still played with the good attacking and decent defending with seen from them for most of this season and it'll please manager and fans alike they did so without a full-strength back line in particular.

West Ham need a striker

The Hammers went with Michail Antonio up front and wanted him to rotate with the likes of Manuel Lanzini.

Whilst the former Nottingham Forest man had a good game up top in the week against Chelsea, though, he couldn't really get into the game today. Simone Zaza came on and had little effect on the match as well and so it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Hammers sign a striker in January.

Barkley good but needs consistency

We saw both the good and bad of Barkley today. He shimmied his way in the first half into some space before seeing a shot parried by Adrian but also gave the ball away at times too.

His second half saw him grab a goal and, whilst an overall decent performance, there are still some things that need ironing out. We all know his talent and he showed it as he grew into the game but getting that consistency is going to be crucial.

Confidence still needs to be built at West Ham

The Hammers are still recovering from their poor early form and in the second half they looked particularly blunt. In the first half, they gave as good as they got and could have taken the lead but suffered an early setback in the second half to halt their charge.

From then, Everton were in the ascendancy and the key now for Slaven Bilic will be to ensure his men put this one out of their minds as soon as possible.

Everton back on track

Everton hadn't won a game until today since September 17th so this will have come as a relief for Ronald Koeman. Had the run gone on much longer people would have been beginning to start asking questions of him but as the Dutchman has proved before, he knows how to tweak things.

A solid win for Everton in the end then and their challenge for Europe is still looking strong.
