Everton have made an impressive start to the Premier League this season and currently sit in sixth place, five points behind the joint leaders.

They are unbeaten at home but were breached twice in a match for the first time all season last weekend.

The defeat away at Burnley has seen them fall off the pace slightly, but they still have reason to be very happy with their campaign so far.

Ronald Koeman is the new manager at Goodison Park and signed well during summer, bringing in Ashley Williams, Yannick Bolasie, Idrissa Gueye, Maarten Stekelenburg and Enner Valencia (on loan from West Ham).

However, there are still a few questions that Koeman has to answer ahead of Everton's next Premier League clash, especially in the face of that disappointing last-minute defeat away at Burnley.

With West Ham visiting Merseyside this weekend, in Football FanCast's Fixture in Focus, it's a good opportunity to get all three points and Koeman will want to make sure he's addressed these issues before kickoff.

Does Ross Barkley deserve to be in the first team?

For the first time in 55 Premier League matches, Ross Barkley was dropped for Everton's draw against Manchester City.

Koeman had warned Barkley earlier in the season that he needed to improve but his performances stalled and he was dropped in favour of Deulofeu.

Everton got a good point at the Etihad Stadium and didn't seem to miss Barkley particularly.

Considering that the 22-year-old seems confused in his role under Koeman, there's a question of whether he should be dropped again this weekend.

Whether or not he is, Koeman has got to work out a way to get the best out of him - because there's no doubting the ability he has.

Should Koeman recall Niasse?

Oumar Niasse

Oumar Niasse has been cast aside since Ronald Koeman took charge this summer.

He was barely given a sniff under the manager that forked out £13m for him in Roberto Martinez but things got even worse under the Dutchman, who quashed his hopes of getting back into the team by claiming that Everton had enough strikers.

However, last week he netted a seven-minute hat trick in an U23 match against Reading in which the Toffees were trailing 2-0.

The Merseysiders went on to win 6-3 but it was Niasse's first-half hat trick that set them on their way.

Confidence is a big thing in football and if Koeman gave him a chance, who knows what he might be capable of?

Maybe the West Ham match is a perfect time to surprise everyone, by placing him on the bench and giving him a short cameo appearance to prove himself.

Are too many players 'luxury'?

Gerard Deulofeu

Everton have some really tidy attacking players - Gerard Deulofeu, Kevin Mirallas, Yannick Bolasie, Aaron Lennon, Ross Barkley to name but a few.

However, when the going gets tough, are these players too 'luxury' to help the Toffees win?

This season Everton have come unstuck at Bournemouth and Burnley and without meaning to cause offence to the opposition, those are two games Everton probably expect to win - they were simply outfought in both instances.

Whilst they all have the ability to create, they don't help out the team on the defensive front as much as they should. It wouldn't be of any benefit to drop them all but Koeman must find a better balance.

Is Stekelenburg good enough?

Maarten Stekelenburg

Stekelenburg stole everyone's hearts a couple of weeks ago when he saved not one but TWO penalties at the Etihad Stadium as Everton held Manchester City to a creditable draw.

He stopped spot kicks from Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero whilst also making a string of other saves during the match.

However, wind forward one week and Everton were defeated by Burnley and the Dutchman was arguably at fault for one of the goals.

He seems to have mistakes in him and after such consistency with Tim Howard over the years, it's time to question whether the journeyman is good enough for the no.1 spot or whether the Toffees need to go searching again next summer.
