In his regular Q&A session between 3pm-4pm UK time on Friday, The Athletic's Everton writer Greg O'Keeffe issued an update on the percentage chance of the Toffees signing a player before the January transfer window deadline.

What did he say?

Well, it has been a quiet window to date for the Merseyside outfit, with Jarrad Branthwaite the only arrival from Carlisle United, and he will link up with the U23s rather than be a part of Carlo Ancelotti's first-team squad.

Everton have been linked with Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, Juventus' Adrien Rabiot and Gremio's Everton Soares among others, but nothing has gone any further than a rumour thus far.

Meanwhile, we asked O'Keeffe what the likelihood of the club bringing in someone before the window slams shut on the 31st, and he had a simple reply – "65%".

Still hopeful

The statement implies that The Athletic journalist is more hopeful than not of the Toffees adding someone to their squad with less than a fortnight to go before the deadline.

Indeed, director of football Marcel Brands hinted at the club's AGM this week, via Sky Sports, that the squad lacks depth on the right-hand side of the attack, and that could be a potential area to be strengthened.

In addition, Ancelotti still only has three senior centre-back options to choose from, and perhaps an extra body there could be a possibility too.

Answering another question on the live Q&A, O'Keeffe said that he can see "at least one senior player coming in".

Everton supporters shouldn't be concerned about a quiet deadline day just yet then, unless that potential player arrives before the Friday at the end of the month.
