Everton have been strongly linked with a move for Colombian centre back Yerry Mina, but would they be better served hijacking West Ham’s chase for Jamaal Lascelles?

According to The Liverpool Echo, Mina is the Toffees’ top target to take over from Phil Jagielka at the back this season.

The Toffees have already dumped Ramiro Funes Mori, and the ageing Jagielka and inexperienced Mason Holgate are not reliable first choices to play alongside Michael Keane.

Keane is at his best when playing alongside a dominant leader like Jagielka or Ben Mee at Burnley, which is why the Toffees should also be eyeing up Lascelles.

According to a report from The Mirror, West Ham will make a second bid for the Newcastle captain after their first offer of £25m was rejected.

The Hammers, like Everton, desperately need some leadership and backbone in the heart of their defence, and the 6 ft 3 Lascelles would bring exactly that to any team he plays for.

Newcastle fans are desperate to keep the 24 year-old, who is arguably the most underrated in his position in the Premier League, but even they know Mike Ashley will cash in if a good offer comes across his table.

Mina is an excellent young player, but Lascelles is equally strong and far more experienced at a similar age, so the Toffees should swoop for the Newcastle man.
