Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata is not a name that would automatically spring to mind when considering future transfer targets for Everton.
However, the 27-year-old has revealed that he once turned down the opportunity to sign for the Merseyside outfit.
As reported by the Daily Record, the defender revealed that in his early 20s he was wanted by Everton, and that he now regrets rejecting the club’s approach.
After failing to make it at Manchester City, where he came through the youth ranks, Boyata signed for Celtic in 2015.
He has not had the easiest of times with the Scottish giants, but at the moment he is a regular in Brendan Rodgers’s team.
In total, Boyata has started 11 Premiership matches, as well as four in the Europa League.

The defender will become a free agent in the summer if a new deal at Parkhead is not signed, which could potentially attract a handful of Premier League clubs.
Everton have a handful of defenders already to choose from, but should they add another to the list?
