Everton have been linked with plenty of midfielders already this summer, but which midfield maestro would fans prefer?

Marco Silva was officially unveiled as Everton manager on Thursday, and the Portuguese tactician is almost certain to buff up his midfield ranks this summer.

Tom Davies has shown glimpses of his potential but largely struggled, Wayne Rooney looks set to leave the club, Idrissa Gueye is poor carrying the ball forward, and Morgan Schneiderlin has taken plenty of flak from fans for his performances.

William Carvalho has been strongly linked with a move to Goodison, mainly due to his connection with Silva from their time together at Sporting CP.

With Gueye already occupying the more defensive role though, the Toffees might be better served going for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is a jack-of-all-trades.

Whereas Carvalho is more of a typical defensive midfielder, Torreira can link midfield and attack in an instant, and has wowed spectators in Italy this season with his dribbling and passing.

The tenacious Uruguayan has grabbed four goals in Serie A this season, but it’s his other statistics that stand out.

Across 36 appearances, the 22 year-old averages 2.8 tackles, two interceptions, one dribble and one key pass per game.

Carvalho’s size and power would make him a good fit for the Premier League, but Torreira is too good a player to pass up for his reported £22m release clause.

So, Everton fans, which midfielder would you prefer this summer? Who would be a better fit for Silva’s Everton? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
