Middlesbrough have made a bid for Ramiro Funes Mori, but what should Everton do with the 27 year-old defender?

With Marco Silva and Marcel Brands looking to trim the Everton wage bill this summer, Funes Mori could be one of a number of players on the chopping block.

The fiery Argentine missed most of last season through injury, making just four Premier League appearances for the Toffees.

Middlesbrough are reportedly now chasing the centre back, although Tony Pulis is also eyeing a move for Bristol City’s Aden Flint.

Funes Mori has shown flashes of brilliance during his time at Goodison, and looked odds on to become a fan favourite due to his passion and physical style, but it just hasn’t gone right for the 6 ft 1 defender.

The Toffees have of course got some work to do on their back line though, so despite the Argentine’s worrying form and injury issues, they should keep hold of him for now.

Phil Jagielka will turn 36 this year, Ashley Williams is expected to leave, and Michael Keane hasn’t completely sold fans on his reliability yet despite improving towards the end of last season.

Funes Mori is not the most talented defender in the world, but he will fight for the shirt every time he steps on the pitch, and at 27 he still has time to improve for the Toffees.
