According to Guardian journalist, Ed Aarons, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton are all pursuing the signature of Nice’s Ivorian midfielder Jean Seri .

The 26-year-old was the subject of Barcelona interest in the summer window, yet a move to the Catalan giants failed to transpire.

What’s the story?

As previously mentioned, the Ivorian almost joined Barcelona in the previous transfer window. However, he could be available in January for a fee of £25million. Chelsea, Man City and Everton are all allegedly keen on the services of the Nice midfielder.

Is he worth it?

Since transferring to Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015, the midfielder has established his status as one of Ligue 1’s most talented players. Seri scored a respectable seven goals in all competitions for Nice last season, and he’s recognised for his ability to craft and create goals.

The Ivorian has amassed four assists this season and his passing ability and capability to play through balls is a critical component of his game. Additionally, he is very dangerous from set-piece situations, and isn’t afraid to shoot from distance.

Who needs him most?

Without question, Chelsea require a midfielder who isn’t afraid to shoot the ball from sizeable distances. Seemingly, there are too many players in Antonio Conte’s squad who are focused on trying to pass their way to goal, as opposed to displaying the initiative to score.

Considering Manchester City’s near perfect start to the new season, it’s difficult to highlight players who deserve being dropped from Pep Guardiola’s line-up. Accordingly, Everton are arguably level with Chelsea regarding the teams who need Jean Michaël Seri.

Nonetheless, if Chelsea and City’s interest is sincere, then it’s difficult to envisage the Toffees winning the battle to sign the midfielder.
