According to reports in The Sunday Times, Everton want to appoint Watford's Marco Silva as their new manager as they believe he can help attract players like Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani, who has scored 149 goals in 215 games for the French outfit, to Goodison Park.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Sunday Times says that the Merseyside outfit want the 40-year-old to lead an overhaul of the playing resources and methods, designed to take the club into the Champions League as soon as possible.

The Sunday Times says that Toffees majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is planning to recruit individuals of the calibre of Cavani, and they believe Silva can help them do that.

The report adds that Everton are continuing to try and convince Watford to release the Portuguese boss from the two-year he contract he signed during the summer, although Sky Sports say that the Hornets aren't willing to do a deal for any price.

Could Silva really help them get players like Cavani?

It's difficult to say.

While the 40-year-old seems to get on well with his players he still isn't a really big name in European football, and it would be difficult to see someone like Cavani choosing to leave PSG to join Everton based solely on the fact that he would want to play under the Portuguese boss.

The Uruguay international would likely be more tempted by a financial package that he would be unable to turn down, but the Merseyside outfit would struggle to compete with the Ligue 1 giants or other bigger European clubs in that respect.

Considering they are currently towards the relegation zone in the Premier League, it should certainly be one step at a time right now for Everton, and attracting Cavani to Goodison Park would appear to be quite unrealistic right now.

What's the verdict, then?

While he may be 30 years of age, the fact that Cavani has such a prolific record for PSG suggests that it would take a lot more than the appointment of Marco Silva at Everton to convince him to join the Toffees' bid to become Premier League contenders.
