As reported by The Daily Mail, Everton are interested in signing Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman in the upcoming transfer window.
The left side of defence has been something of a problem position for Everton this month with Leighton Baines missing out the entirety of December with a calf injury and natural right-sided player Cuco Martina having to fill in.
Going forward they need more depth on that left side and with permanent transfers difficult to come by in January, a viable short-term solution could be a loan move.
One player they’re said to be interested in is Chelsea’s Baba Rahman, currently recovering from a long-term knee injury sustained in February.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who report that Everton are battling it out with Monaco and Schalke to land a potential loan deal.
The paper say that the player himself, who has returned to first-team training, will decide which option is best for him over the coming weeks, with the possibility of also staying to fight for his place at Chelsea.
Rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, Baba Rahman is something of a forgotten man in English football, having not featured for Chelsea since the 2015/16 season.
He spent last term on loan at Bundesliga side Schalke before sustaining that serious injury, adding to his fairly extensive playing history despite just being 23 years of age. The left-back has made over 120 career appearances already in Germany and England, also gaining 26 caps for the Ghanaian national team.
The defender would add quality and depth to Everton’s defensive line on a budget in January and if he’s open to the reported loan move, it’s certainly a deal worth pursuing.
