In Focus: Soumare could be an excellent long-term signing for Everton

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in services of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare. The 18-year-old has impressed having made ten first-team appearances for the French side this season.

It is reported that Everton aren’t the only Premier League team interested in signing Soumare, with Manchester City and Leicester City also keen on the midfielder.

What’s the story?

Everton are one of three Premier League teams interested in Lille’s Boubakary Soumare who was signed from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window. While it is reported that Manchester City have the most concrete interest in the midfielder, the Toffees are also keen on the teenager.

To his credit, the 18-year-old has established himself as a regular in Lille’s squad following his summer switch from PSG, and it is evident that his potential is vast, hence the volume of interest from Premier League teams.

What will he bring?

Soumare has been dubbed as ‘the new Paul Pogba’ which might not be an appropriate title for a midfielder who has failed to score or provide an assist in ten games. However, this isn’t an insinuation that the midfielder isn’t talented. On the contrary, Soumare is viewed as a physical midfielder who flaunts excellent technical ability.

In addition to his physicality, the midfielder is regarded for his terrific passing ability. Additionally, his height – 6ft 2in – enables him to dictate proceedings in the air. He’s also highly regarded for his athleticism and willingness to distribute the ball frequently.

Would he be a worthwhile investment?

At the age of 18, the Lille midfielder is clearly endowed with considerable potential, and while he may not be ready to feature on a weekly basis, he’s more than capable of making a purposeful impact when required.

Casting an eye to the future, this could be a very fruitful investment for the Toffees.
