Everton’s Phil Jagielka has admitted that the Blues need to rediscover their winning form that they started the season with.
Everton currently sit in 5th place with 16 points – their best start in the Premier League since 2004 and just one point from a Champions League qualification position.
However, the club’s form has dwindled recently, with only two wins from their last eight matches in all competitions.
David Moyes’ men have now drawn their last three games, against QPR, Wigan and Liverpool; however they have only lost once in the Premier League this season.
Jagielka admitted to the Liverpool Daily Post that his side’s excellent start is in danger of losing it’s momentum. The England international is looking to get back to winning ways when Everton travel to Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Saturday.
“It’s important for us to starting winning more games again,” said the strong centre-back. “We made a fantastic start and while I wouldn’t say it has petered out, it’s become more of an okay start now.
“Having said that, our starts are normally horrific, so compared to that it has been terrific!
“You have to hang on through a difficult period and come out with a point, and we’ve been able to do that.”
Jagielka believes that the second half of the season will see Everton rise up the table, should they maintain their position in the league until Christmas.
“If we can get to the Christmas in the top five or top six, that’s somewhere where haven’t been in a long time.
“If we can do that, I’m sure the manager is confident enough he can make us kick on again like he normally does in the New Year and we can finish higher up the league.”
David Moyes recently admitted that securing European football will be one of his considerations in regards to signing a new contract at Everton. The Scot’s current deal expires at the end of the season.
“I want to be fair to Everton supporters and see if I can give them European football. If I can do that then we will see how things are” said the Everton boss.
“I have a great relationship with the chairman so I don’t feel any great need to do anything at this present time” he added.
