Schmeichel and five more Howard successors that should be on Everton’s radar

According to the Mirror Everton want Premier League title winning goalkeeper Kasper Schmeical to replace the out-going Tim Howard.

The America international has enjoyed a long career at Goodison Park but found playing time dramatically reduced last season and so decided to call it a day on his time on Merseyside and return closer to home. The Toffees have been using Joel Robles in goal for a while, but after a campaign in which they struggled defensively and eventually saw Roberto Martinez sacked, big defensive changes are expected at the club.

Schmeichel was just one of the many stand-out performers in Leicester’s miraculous title win with his great distributing and shot stopping, and so it’s likely Everton would have to put forward quite the deal for the Dane to consider leaving the Champions League-bound club.

Whether the former Notts County man joins Everton or not remains to be seen but evidently the club are in the market for a new man between the sticks. With this in mind FootballFanCast brings you another FIVE players being linked…

Joe Hart

Joe Hart

You cannot doubt Joe Hart’s quality – he’s simply one of the best goalkeepers about. The English No.1 is an imposing presence and an influential player too. He’d organise Everton’s defence in no time and be an instant hit with the Goodison Park faithful. The Sun have reported that it could happen and it would be a big statement of intent from the Merseysiders if they could pull it off.

Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster

The Express think this one could be on. When Forster came back from a lengthy injury earlier last season for Southampton the inevitable questions over whether he could still perform were quickly banished.

Forster was key in Saints’ superb run to sixth in the Premier League and would be a real asset to any of the Premier League’s biggest sides. Southampton will be desperate to keep him so Everton would need to put in a big offer to dislodge him.

Jasper Cillessen

The Mirror are reporting that the Ajax and Netherlands No.1 could be the man for Everton. Cillesen is 27, so he is coming into his prime as a goalkeeper which is ideally what Everton need.

A goalie with a great deal of European and international experience Cillesen could be the ideal candidate for the Toffees as they look to fill the void left by Howard.

Jack Butland

Jack Butland

Butland was pushing for the England No.1 spot at this summer’s EUROs before being cruelly denied by injury. Nevertheless it’s surely only a matter of time before he again challenges for this position after a stellar 2015/16 saw his stock rise for Stoke City.

The Toffees were linked with him earlier in the season and now Howard’s departure has been confirmed they might go back for the Englishman with added interest.

Pierluigi Gollini

The Daily Mail are reporting that the former Manchester United youngster could be the man between the sticks for the club for years to come. Gollini is currently at Hellas Verona in Italy and at the age of 21 has plenty of years left ahead of him to become a top ‘keeper.

He obviously has something about him if United had him on their books, and if the Toffees get their homework done on him he could be an inspired choice.
