Kone alternative? Everton lining up £17.3m La Liga defender

Everton are interested in Valencia’s Aymen Abdennour after losing John Stones to Manchester City, despite links with Lamine Kone of Sunderland, according to reports from Deportivo Valenciano.

The Toffees finally relented in their desire to keep hold of the 22-year-old England international earlier this week, sanctioning his sale to Pep Guardiola’s Citizens for a fee of close to £50m.

Since then they have signed Ashley Williams from Swansea, but reports have claimed that Kone is an £18m target as they plot to fill the void left by Stones’ exit.

However, Deportivo Valenciano have now revealed that Valencia’s Abdennour is a player the Merseysiders are interested in, despite him having endured a default debut season in La Liga.

The Tunisian featured 22 times in the league for an underperforming Los Che side following his move from Monaco, and it’s understood that the Mestalla outfit are willing to sell for around €20m (£17.3m).

Kone looks to be Everton’s main target, but despite suggestions he’s requested a transfer, Sunderland are planning to offer him a new contract.
