According to The Mirror (Transfer Live Blog, Sunday 3 June, 22:14), Everton are facing Premier League competition for the signing of highly-rated Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa.

What's the story?

At only 20-years-old, Konsa has already made nearly 100 senior appearance for the Addicks and has shown versatility by performing in central midfield as well as his natural centre back position.

A regular for Charlton over the season, the youngster is now expected to move after they failed to win promotion to the Championship, and Everton and Brighton are vying for his signature.

It is believed a fee of £5million is necessary to prise the England U20 international away from Charlton.

Is he a good signing for Everton?

League One is a difficult place for defenders of any age, let alone 20-year-olds, and Konsa has proved himself to be a reliable figure at the back of this Charlton team.

Having played 47 times in all competitions this season, it is definitely time for the defender to take the step-up, although he is unlikely to feature regularly in the Premier League just yet.

Everton struggled at the back last season and Konsa could be the perfect long-term partner for Michael Keane.

English talent normally comes at a premium and £5million for a League One player may seem steep, but it will look a drop in the ocean if he can forge a successful top-flight career for the Toffees.
