Lucas Digne was just one of a number of Everton signings this summer that really captured the imagine - it's not often you sign three players from Barcelona in the same transfer window, not to mention one of the Premier League's most exciting young players in Richarlison - but the French full-back has been made to wait for his chance to impress at Goodison Park.

He's started the season playing second fiddle to Leighton Baines and some would argue rightly so considering how fantastic a servant the set piece specialist has been to the Toffees down the years, but after showing good form against Rotherham in the Carabao Cup new understudy Digne was finally given the nod to start in the Premier League against Huddersfield on Saturday.

And it was an interesting full debut in the English top flight for the 25-year-old. It's already clear what he'll give to Everton going forward, having set up Dominic Calvert-Lewin with a cute, dipping cross into the box. That was one of three chances Digne made against the Terriers, the most of any player involved in the 1-1 draw, while he also completed one dribble and an impressive 85% of his passes.

Lucas Digne's stats vs Huddersfield

Defensively though, there are still some questions to be answered, partly because Huddersfield's 5-4-1 system really didn't offer the former Nou Camp ace that much of a test. Tellingly, Digne didn't register a single tackle or interception on Saturday, although he did manage two clearances. Right now, that niggling doubt over whether he'll add some much-needed defensive nous to a backline that's already conceding too many goals is probably what's separating Digne from Everton's sturdier veteran left-back.
