According to reports in The Telegraph, new Everton manager Marco Silva is set to risk the wrath of some members of the Goodison Park faithful by handing midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin a fresh start under his tutelage.

What's the word, then?

New Everton manager Marco Silva

Well, The Telegraph report that the 40-year-old wants to keep the Frenchman on Merseyside during a summer shake-up where Davy Klaassen, Ashley Williams and Kevin Mirallas are all expected to go.

The Telegraph says that the 28-year-old former Manchester United man had been considering his future having become something of a scapegoat for Toffees fans after a disappointing season for the club under both Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, but Silva is keen to convince him to stay.

The report adds that the new boss will chat to Schneiderlin about his plans for him when he returns to pre-season training next month.

How did Schneiderlin do during the 2017/18 campaign?

It was certainly a disappointing campaign for the Frenchman, who didn't live up to the performances he produced in the 16/17 season following his move from United.

While he certainly wasn't at his best, neither were many of his teammates as many of them seemed to lack confidence for the first few months following a difficult start under Koeman.

The midfielder often opted for the short, sideways passes rather than moving forward and using the huge passing range he has in his locker to make forward passes, which often frustrated the Goodison Park faithful.

Is this a good decision by Silva?

Probably not, no.

While the Portuguese manager may feel that the 28-year-old can be a good player for Everton next season, he isn't at a level where he should be a must-keep or deemed irreplaceable by someone better.

Considering many Toffees fans, who are desperate for a £16.2m-rated star to get the boot this summer, aren't particularly fond of the Frenchman, it would surely be better to move him on and then bring in a player that everyone is going to get behind, in what should be a positive new era under Silva and director of football Marcel Brands.
