According to reports in The Sun on Sunday, new Everton manager Marco Silva wants West Ham United attacker Marko Arnautovic to spearhead his attack next season.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Sun on Sunday says that Toffees director of football Marcel Brands is ready to back the man he helped appoint with a bid for Arnautovic, who is rated at £50m by the Irons.

The Sun on Sunday says it isn't a fee that would faze the Merseyside outfit and owner Farhad Moshiri, despite it being more than double the price the east London club paid for the 29-year-old when they signed him from Stoke City last summer.

The report adds that they would have to fight off Manchester United for the Austria international's signature, with the Red Devils favourites to get the versatile 6ft 4in forward.

How did Arnautovic do during the 2017/18 campaign?

He was brilliant.

While he didn't get off to the best of starts after being sent off on his second Premier League appearance, the 29-year-old bounced back and scored 11 goals and provided a further six assists in 31 outings in all competitions.

The Austria started the season on the left wing, but he became the Irons' first-choice centre-forward under David Moyes, and was above the likes of Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll in the pecking order.

He dominated and bossed Toffees centre-backs Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka as he scored one and assisted another in his side's 3-1 win against Everton on the final day.

Would he be a good signing for Everton?

He certainly would be and he would be one that the supporters, the majority of which don't feel they should sign a Euro 2016 winner this summer, would surely love.

Arnautovic has shown with Stoke City and West Ham how effective and influential he can be at this level, and he would certainly be a great spearhead of the Merseyside outfit's attack.

His power and pace mean that he can play anywhere across the frontline and can be a real danger for opposition defenders, and of course he has proven that he can find the net on a regular basis – something that is required in order to keep the Goodison Park faithful that were often left frustrated in the 2017/18 season satisfied.
