Everton manager David Moyes has been desperate to bring in some extra cover in his midfield and Thomas Hitzlsperger has been on trial with the club in hope of earning a contract on Merseyside.

Hitzlsperger has been on trial with Everton this week and it seems the former Aston Villa and West Ham midfielder will find out his fate this weekend after Darren Gibson has been ruled out for at least two weeks.

Youngster Ross Barkley has already left the club on loan and ‘Der Hammer’ could be the perfect option for Moyes to fill his small Everton squad that has impressed so far this season.

“I'm a bit worried we do need cover,” Moyes told the Daily Mail.

“'I've got to look at players who are out of contract to give us some cover over the next few months. There are not many around but I am looking without having anything specific at this time.”

Any new signings will automatically start speculation regarding any departures at Goodison Park with at least two of the current squad linked heavily with a move away in January.
