According to Football Insider, Everton want to sign Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck on a free transfer at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

What's the word, then?

Welbeck will see his current deal with Arsenal expire at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old is still on the sidelines recovering from a broken ankle, but could return in the latter stages of the campaign.

According to Football Insider, Everton have identified the 42-time England international as a potential summer signing and are preparing to offer a contract.

Welbeck had managed five goals in 14 appearances for Arsenal in the first half of the season before picking up his ankle injury.

In total, the attacker has found the back of the net on 32 occasions in 126 appearances for the Gunners switch a 2014 switch from Manchester United.

Is Welbeck an upgrade on Tosun?

The future of Cenk Tosun at Everton is far from secure, with the striker said to be angling for a return to Turkey in this summer's transfer window.

Tosun has managed just two Premier League goals this term and it would be fair to say that he has really struggled since arriving at Goodison Park.

Whilst Tosun certainly has quality, Welbeck would be the better fit for Everton.

The Englishman knows the league extremely well, whilst his ability to play in a number of different positions in the final third of the field makes him an attractive proposition.

It is obvious that the Toffees would face competition for the former Man United man, but on a free Welbeck could turn out to be one of the signings of the summer.
