Reports in France claim three clubs are chasing Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, but Everton simply must throw their hat in the ring.

What's the story?

According to RMC, PSG, Liverpool and Arsenal are call keeping tabs on Doucoure.

The Watford midfielder had a sensational campaign last season, and the Hornets want €40m (around £35m) in order to part ways with the Frenchman.

The Reds brought in two big money midfielders this summer, but are expected to revamp their midfield again next year as James Milner hits 33 and Adam Lallana continues to struggle with injuries.

While Everton are not one of the clubs mentioned in the report, the Toffees have shown in the past couple of seasons they are willing to splash out huge cash for the right player.

Doucoure could be the box-to-box midfielder that the Toffees have been lacking for years, and quite possibly one of the final pieces of Marco Silva’s puzzle.

More than a one-season wonder

For the first time in years, Everton fans are confident their club is headed in the right direction. Marcel Brands and Silva identified several weak spots this summer, but there are still a couple of moves needed before they can really challenge the top six.

A clinical goalscorer is probably top of every fan’s shopping list, and a dominant central midfielder is undoubtedly the next priority. Doucoure could be the perfect signing, as the 25 year-old has absolutely dominated for Watford over the past couple of seasons.

After a superb year last season, many fans felt the towering Frenchman would fall off in this campaign, but he already has four Premier League assists, a total no Everton player can better.

He wins 1.4 aerial duels per game and 2.1 tackles per game, but also completes 1.5 key passes per game and 81 per cent of his overall passes. He had one particularly remarkable assist against Burnley in August, and he really does fit the cliché of having good feet for a big man.

If Everton are seeking a dominant, physical presence in the middle of the park who can both score and create goals while also getting stuck in on the defensive end, they won’t find a better deal than Doucoure for £35m.

So, Everton fans, would you back a move for Doucoure? Would he walk in to your midfield? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
