According to The Mirror, Paris Saint-Germain are ‘determined’ to sign Chelsea star N’Golo Kante this summer after shelving their interest in Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
Well, the French champions have turned their attentions to the World Cup winner after finding it difficult to prise Gueye away from Goodison Park.
PSG had a £25m bid rebuffed for the former Aston Villa man in January, a move which saw the Senegalese international hand in a transfer request in order to force the issue – he ultimately did not get his wish.
In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…
Thomas Tuchel’s side are clearly keen to snap up another defensive midfielder having already seemingly secured Ander Herrera, after he announced his departure from Manchester United – it has also been reported that they’ll target Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure if they cannot get Kante.
The aforementioned report from The Mirror states that PSG decided not to pursue Gueye as Everton do not need to sell and have no intention of letting the 29-year-old leave the club. That seems particularly strange.
The Parisians have all the financial muscle in the world and can afford to lure almost any player they want to the Parc des Princes, so the Toffees can count themselves lucky that they have left one of their star men alone.
Kante will almost definitely cost a lot more than what Gueye would due to the fact he is one of the best players in Europe in his position; Chelsea’s transfer ban will mean that any offer for the former Leicester man will have to be one they simply can’t reject.
In that respect, it does feel as if Gueye would be easier to obtain for PSG, which is why Marco Silva’s side should be breathing a huge side of relief that they seem to have abandoned their chase.
