Former Everton club skipper Phil Neville is to see a specialist this week and then decide on his playing future.
Neville is coming to the end of his playing career at Everton, although he has been tipped for a coaching role at some point in the future, but he has yet to decide whether or not to try and prolong his playing career.
The former Manchester United star is to see a specialist this week about his long-standing knee problem and only after that will he decide on whether he play again.
Neville told the Mail: “I’ve not made a decision. I’ve not officially retired and over the next couple of weeks that’s the main decision to make whether my body is up to the remands. I’ll sit down with my wife and family and come to the decision.
“I don’t see it as a sad day, I feel proud and lucky and blessed to have played for two great football clubs.
“There have been a lot of people retiring and moving on and I just want to take a couple of weeks, have a holiday and then make the decision because I’ve been on this treadmill for a long time and I feel like I need a rest to make the right decision.”
